Due June 30

City says Red Deer 2023 property tax notices are on the way

May 26, 2023 | 11:35 AM

Red Deer property owners can expect to receive their 2023 property tax notices in their mailboxes and inboxes soon, the City says.

Notices were sent on Tuesday and city officials say the 2023 tax payment deadline is June 30.

Payments can be made online or in person through financial institutions, by mail, through mortgage companies, or at City Hall. Property owners can also sign up for the Tax Instalment Plan (TIP) to pay their taxes in monthly preauthorized payments. Visit www.reddeer.ca/TIP for more information and www.reddeer.ca/mycity to sign up by June 15.

City officials say property owners who do not receive their tax notice by mid June should check their MyCity account, which can be accessed at www.reddeer.ca/mycity, or contact the City’s tax team at 403-342-8126 or tax@reddeer.ca. The City says they may not have updated ownership information for recent real estate transactions.

They add that unpaid taxes are subject to a six per cent penalty, lower than the historical seven per cent. Penalties are being applied to current year unpaid taxes on July 1 and September 1, and on taxes in arrears on January 1 and July 1. The City confirms that this year ill be the last of lowered penalty rates that were provided to support recovery from the impacts of the pandemic.

Anyone who may not be able to pay their taxes by the deadline is being encouraged to pay as much as they can to reduce penalties and to reach out to City staff to discuss payment options.

More information about Red Deer’s property tax program is available on The City’s website, www.reddeer.ca/tax.
