Our dear Mum, Grandma, and Mémère, Jeannette (Legere) Hogarth passed in the early morning hours of May 14, 2023, at age 94.
Jeannette was born on November 26, 1928, to Henry and Dorilda Leger in Moncton, NB, the fifth child and first daughter in a warm, loving Acadian family. Jeannette spent her childhood summers in Grande Digue and Shediac, digging for clams, singing, and having fun at Parlee Beach. After high school, she took a secretarial course. To get to work, she would run to catch a bus at the stop in front of the Moncton RCMP detachment, where she caught the eye of a handsome, young Mountie, Tom Hogarth. Although she had a boyfriend, Tom showed up on her doorstep to take her to church and won her heart. They married in 1952 and began their married life in High River, Alberta. Three sons—Dave, Greg, and Kevin—soon followed. The RCMP transferred the family every two years. They spent time in Regina, Avonlea, Gravelbourg, Lloydminster, and finally, Swift Current.
Jeannette enjoyed her work at the Farm Credit Corporation in Swift Current. She was a volunteer with the MS Society, a cause close to her heart. Upon retirement, she and Tom spent their summers at the resort village of Beaver Flat on Lake Diefenbaker, and their winters in Arizona with dear life-long friends: the Wilkins, the Vermas, and the Maltaises. In 1998, when Tom’s health declined, they moved to Olds to be nearer to family.
Jeannette was predeceased by her loving husband Tom in 2006, and siblings Laurie, Blair “Pete”, Hector, and Raymond, and daughter-in-law Deedee Hogarth. She leaves to mourn her sisters Lorraine Camm and Marguerite LeBlanc, and brother Ronald Legere and their families; as well as sons David (Charlotte), Greg (Ione), and Kevin (June); and grandchildren Jamie (Stephanie), Aaron (Alex), Christopher (Katrin), Amanda (Travis), Melissa (Mark), Jennifer, and Sarah; and great grandchildren: Emma, Danika, Nicholas, Garrett, Ryder, Hayden, Kendall, Keely, Camden, Liam, Ethan, Ava, Jace, and Lochlin. Jeannette loved her family very much. We were lucky to have her for our Mum, Grandma, and Mémère. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Encore Seasons Care Home for their care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Jeannette’s memory to Hope 4 MVC Kids, RR #2, Site 15, Box 14, Olds, AB T4H 1P3 or your local MS Society.
