KNIGHT, Gerald Gary (Jerry) – It is with very heavy hearts that we share his sudden passing at home in Caroline, Alberta, on May 9, 2023. Jerry was born August 6, 1946 in Ontario. Predeceased by his father Mark, Gramma Haze, mother Audrey, brothers Rick and Norman, and sister Marlene. He leaves behind to miss him immeasurably, his wife of 55 years Patty, daughter Diana, son Jason (Deana), grandsons Spencer and Dean, his special “little guy” “Cat”, his “favorite mother-in-law”, Betty, a large extended family and many dear friends. At three, his family moved to Alberta, living in Montgomery, and to Okotoks at 10 where he grew up. Jerry was a very hard worker, starting in the oil industry at 17, working his way up to supervisor at 21, and being the youngest person holding that position. He became a master carpenter, mostly self-taught, with the guidance of his dad and a close family friend. There was nothing he wouldn’t tackle, jack of all trades, master of many. He held positions as foreman/supervisor for many companies, working on many major projects in and around Calgary. So much talent, skill and knowledge is lost with him. The family bought a home and moved from Calgary then to Airdrie in 1981. He started his own company, Patricia Enterprises, building many commercial buildings in and around Airdrie. He was most honoured to have constructed the Airdrie Legion Cenotaph. The family acquired many great memories including demolition derbies he organized, travelling and camping in the camper he built, and dune buggying in Kananaskis and Fallen/Burnt Timber. While embarking on their retirement in 2009, he suffered a debilitating major stroke. His strong determination and Patty’s dedication enabled him to make a miraculous recovery. He and Patty retired to their beloved “Cabin” in 2010 where he enjoyed his retirement years in nature, surrounded by the birds, deer and other animal visitors he so loved. He was an avid reader, had a passion for antique cars, and loved to have a good time with family and friends with classic country and rockabilly playing in the background. His smile, laughter, quick wit and sense of humour were enjoyed by all who crossed his path. He was a mentor to many and was always eager to lend a helping hand. He will be deeply missed and his absence will be sorely felt. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation in his name to The ROAR Society at roarsociety.ca, or a society of your choice dedicated to the rescue of stray and unwanted animals, which was his dear wish. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Condolences may be made through Heartland Funeral Services at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com
