John Maeers, beloved husband, and best friends of Helen Maeers passed away May 7, 2023, at the age of 87 years. John was born in Calgary to David and Margaret Maeers. He grew up in Calgary and attended Crescent Heights High School. He enjoyed many sports and was active in boxing, judo, baseball, biking, and hockey. He moved to Edmonton for a few years and then returned to Calgary, then to Olds, Alberta finally settling in Didsbury, Alberta. John met Helen “his sweetheart” and they married on October 10, 2009. Over the years John worked in sales at Eatons, renovated campers and later started up his own moving company, which he worked at for 30 years.
John supported many Calgary sport teams. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and spending quality time with his family who he dearly loved. John volunteered at the Olds Food Bank for 20 years and sat on the Condo Board at College Greens. He had a great sense of humor and loved telling stories.
John’s love and dedication to his family will be deeply missed by all. He is survived by his loving wife Helen; son Richard; daughter Lorna (John); stepdaughters Wendy, Della (Clyde), Ethel, Betty Ann; stepsons Doug (Sheila), Ken (Laurie) ; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 3 great great- great grandchildren and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. John is predeceased by spouses Joyce and Linda; parents Margaret and David; brother Donald; sister Ruth; nieces Georgia, Stephanie, and stepdaughter Sandie. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Didsbury Hospital for their excellent care and kindness shown towards John and the family.
A private celebration of life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #105 at a later date.
In lieu of flower, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Olds Food Bank.
