Wildfire Evacuation Orders in place for many parts of central Alberta

The Town of Fox Creek has issued a Wildfire Alert.

As of 10:28 p.m. on May 5, 2023, officials say this alert is in effect for everyone in Fox Creek and surrounding areas as there is a wildfire burning east of Fox Creek.

Everyone in Fox Creek and the surrounding areas must prepare for a possible evacuation. Gather pets, important documents, and medication and enough food, water and supplies for three days.

This alert will be updated if an evacuation is required. Stay tuned to www.alberta.ca/emergencyalert and local media for updates.

Lac Ste. Anne County has updated its Wildfire Alert.

As of 10:00 p.m. on May 5, 2023, this alert remains in effect for everyone north of Township Road 560 and south of Highway 43, and between Range Road 60 to 53, including Cherhill.

Officials say there is a wildfire nearby that might threaten this area.

Everyone North of Township Road 560 and south of Highway 43, and between Range Road 60 to 53 must prepare for a possible evacuation. Including Cherhill.

Prepare pets, documents, medication and supplies to be away from home for 72 hours. No evacuation required at this time. If you must evacuate, go to the Mayerthorpe Diamond Centre 4918 54 Street in Mayerthorpe.

Lac Ste. Anne County has expanded its Evacuation Order due to wildfire.

As of 9:27 p.m. on May 5, 2023, everyone located between Township Road 553 and Township Road 560 and between Range Road 51 and 60 must evacuate now, except everyone North of Lessard Lake.

Go to the Mayerthorpe Diamond Centre 4918 54 Street in Mayerthorpe. Bring pets, documents, medication and food, water supplies for three days. For updates go to www.alberta.ca/emergency alert or stay tuned to local media.

Leduc County has canceled a Wildfire Alert.

As of 8:59 p.m. on May 5, 2023, this alert was in effect for everyone from Range Road 41 east to Range Road 35 and from Township Road 494 north to Township Road 495.

Officials say the wildfire is under control and fire crews remain on scene to monitor fire breaks. The evacuation has been lifted and impacted residents have been notified. Range Road 40 is now open – no road closures are in place.

No further action is needed and evacuated residents may return to their homes.

Parkland County has expanded its wildfire evacuation alert.

As of 8:10 p.m. on May 5, 2023, this alert is now in effect for everyone west of Range Road 65 near Entwistle, north of Township Road 530 to south of Township Road 534, including all residents of Entwistle.

Alberta Wildfire has advised a fire is near Woodlands County.

As of 7:54 p.m. on May 5, 2023,

A 2 hectare fire is in Yellowhead County, south of Whitecourt, near RR 124 & Twp 555.

Officials say weather conditions are pushing the fire west, away from Woodlands County.

Woodlands County Fire Department is in the Anselmo area, notifying home owners. No evacuation orders are in place.

Alberta Transportation has confirmed that Hwy 32, from the Town of Whitecourt to Hwy 16 is closed.

Brazeau County has expanded its evacuation area.

As of 6:27 p.m. on May 5, 2023, everyone from Township Road 482 north to Township Road 494, and North Saskatchewan River west to Range Road 90 must evacuate now, including everyone in Drayton Valley.

Evacuate on Highway 22 north to Highway 624. Follow 624 to Tomahawk then take 627 east towards Stony Plain.

Evacuate to Edmonton and register at the Expo Center, at 7515 118 Ave at Hall C. If you need help evacuating, call 780-542-7777.

Everyone from Range Road 90 to Range Road 100 between Township Road 480, north to Highway 621 must prepare for a possible evacuation, including Cynthia. Be ready to leave in 30 minutes or less.

As of approximately 2:30 p.m. on May 5, Alberta Health Services (AHS) and its EMS partners have evacuated all patients and residents from the Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre in response to an evacuation order issued due to the current wildfire risk.

According to officials with Alberta Wildfire:

  • Alberta Wildfire has sent 26 wildfire fighters, three helicopters to the wildfire. Airtankers will also be supporting the firefighting efforts today.

Yellowhead County and Town of Edson have issued an Immediate Evacuation Order for the Town of Edson and Yellowhead County. 

As  of 5:37 p.m. on May 5, 2023, the western boundary of the evacuation zone is Marlboro and Range Road 200 all the way to the east of Yellowhead County. Northern boundary is Township Road 550 and southern is Township Road 520. This includes the town of Edson.

You need to evacuate immediately. Evacuation route is west to Hinton or Jasper. Highway 16 East, Highway 22, Highway 32, and Highway 40 ARE ALL CLOSED. HEAD WEST ON HIGHWAY 16.

Evacuate immediately. For those with no transportation or require bussing go to Glenwood Park, Holy Redeemer High, Westhaven School, Griffith Park Parking Lot, Mary Bergeron School, or Hillendale Park. Call 1-833-334-4630 for assistance.

Wetaskiwin County has issued a Wildfire Alert.

As of 4:56 p.m. on May 5, officials say there is a Wlidfire near Range Road 70, just south of the county border, burning to the northwest.

Everyone between Range Road 70 and Range Road 80, and between Township Road 450 and Township Road 460 must prepare for a possible evacuation. Bring pets, important documents and medication and enough food, water and supplies to be away from home for three days.

No evacuation is required yet but if an evacuation is required, go to the Winfield Agriplex, at 401 6 Street in Winfield. Stay tuned www.alberta.ca/emergencyalert or local media for updates.

Clearwater County has issued a wildfire Evacuation Alert for the Nordegg area.

As of 12:48 p.m. on May 5, 2023, this evacuation alert is in effect for everyone west of Beaverdam Provincial Recreation Area and east of the Bighorn Dam, this includes the hamlet of Nordegg.

Alberta Wildfire says it is responding to RWF031 within Clearwater County. The wildfire is approximately 90 ha and 18 km southeast of Nordegg and 20km southeast of the Bighorn First Nation.

Officials say the evacuation alert is in place to be extra cautious given the extreme fire hazard and weather conditions making firefighting operations challenging.

Evacuation alert: PLAN to evacuate with enough items to keep you and your family and pets conformable for at least 72 hours.
