The family of Mrs. Norma Morris sadly announces her passing on April 23, 2023, at the Innisfail Health Centre at the age of 92 years young with her loving husband Doug and five children by her side. Norma was born in Innisfail, Alberta on October 9, 1930, to Lillian and Charles Emrich and grew up on the Emrich family farm east of Bowden. In 1946, at the age of sixteen, Norma met the love of her life and soul mate Doug Morris, and at the age of seventeen years, she graduated from Innisfail High School. Although Norma was ready to settle down with Doug, he wasn’t quite ready as he felt he wouldn’t be able to support her since he was still living at home. Norma decided then to enroll in Nursing School at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary from 1949 – 1953. Norma then got a job at the Innisfail Hospital as a practicing RN. Doug has always had a saying “that a truly successful farmer had a wife that also had a job in town.” Doug and Normie were married June 12, 1954, at the Innisfail United Church. Norma continued to work at the Innisfail Hospital until the birth of their first child, Judy, in 1955. Normie and Doug went on to welcome 4 more children, Greg, Joanne, Susan and Jack. Norma worked hard alongside Doug on the family farm while raising her five children. The couple were very active in the Pure-Bred Hereford community, raising prize winning Hereford bulls for many years. Norma and Doug loved to ride their horses and took many trail rides with Norma’s brother Bill and his wife. They also enjoyed travelling with several groups of friends to Arizona and Texas. Norma was an avid cook and gardener who loved spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and the many fur babies that came and went on the farm. Norma was a kind and gentle soul who will be dearly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Norma will be lovingly remembered by her husband Doug, her children Judy (Ray), Greg (Karen), Joanne (Brooke), Susan (Bryan) and Jack (Lorrie). Norma was a very proud grandmother to Myles (Shanna), John (Allison), Mike, Garilyn (Jared), Mandi-Rae (Paul), Kalli (Dusty), Austin, Justin (Amber), Allie (Dan) and Haylee (Chris) as well as seven great-grandchildren. Norma is also survived by her sisters, Ruth and Joan, her brother Ed and sister-in-law Donna. Norma was predeceased by both of her parents, sister Verna and her brother Bill, her brothers-in-law Charlie, Chris, Allan and sisters in law Doreen and Irene.
