Horse Expo Canada’s second visit to Red Deer begins Friday

The Horse Expo begins this Friday for its second visit in Red Deer and there truly is, something for everyone.

From April 28-30, the largest equine trade show in Western Canada will host a variety of activities from the trainers showdown, clinics, presentation lounges, an art show, and more at Westerner Park (4847A 19 St).

Not only will there be a new fashion show added to this year’s expo, but there will also be a new talk show called the Horsemen’s Hot Seat. Hosts Kylie Bartel and Elisha Bradburn will have conversations with clinicians, discussing their horsemanship skills and their journey of how they got into the industry.

The Expo has also expanded their kid’s scavenger hunt to all three days with an ‘old west stagecoach robbery’ theme. Two prize baskets will be available each day and ‘WANTED’ posters will be placed throughout four buildings for kids in search for the ‘Tumbleweed Gang’ members.

Over 400 exhibitors will be on site for all things horse related from customer saddles & tack, equine health & dentistry, ranch & anchorage real estate, clothing, among many others.

The Trainers Showdown will bring together three of North America’s top horse trainers to compete in a weekend-long competition, demonstrating their training techniques and strategies with young male horses, or colts. The two-hour finale will be on Sunday with a champion to be crowned.

As well, 13 clinicians will be giving seminars, teaching various disciplines including dressage, pole bending, reining, and more.

Presentations throughout the expo include donkey and mule demos, saddle fitting, horse nutrition, equine health, women’s physiotherapy through equine activities, and many others.

For entertainment, live music and stories will be performed by Jack Bartlett from the Heartland television series, Ponoka’s very own Shaun Johnston, and Greg Coxx.

Everyone is being welcomed to join the Cowboy Church on Sunday from 9:15-9:45 a.m.

Tickets start at $20 for adults per day and $15 for youth. For a weekend pass, tickets are $50 for adults and $38 for youth.

The Expo runs from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. each day. On Sunday, the Trade Show will end at 4 p.m. for the Trainers Showdown finale.
