It is with sadness that we announce the death of George.W. ‘Bill’ Linford, formerly of Edmonton, Alberta and Gunn, Alberta, who passed away in Red Deer on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at the age of 94 years, following a brief illness.
Bill enjoyed a long and productive life, including his lengthy service with the City of Edmonton Water and Sanitation Department. Following retirement, he and his wife, Wanda, moved to Gunn, Alberta, where they enjoyed many years as part of the Lac Ste. Anne community, residing at Waters Edge Resort. Never inclined to sit around, Bill ran his own business and later did grounds maintenance at the resort, well into his ‘80’s.
Bill and Wanda were married for fifty-six years and shortly after Wanda’s passing in 2011, he moved to Onoway, Alberta. In 2018, he relocated to Red Deer, as his health became more challenging, and to be closer to family.
Bill will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Robin (Michael) Donlevy, his son, Mark Linford, his granddaughters, Erin Donlevy and Kerri (Adam) Passmore and his much beloved great grandchildren, Owen and Sophia Passmore.
He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him over the many years.
A Private Family Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations in Bill’s honour, would be gratefully accepted to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta and Northwest Territories at www.heartandstroke.ca.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation for the care, kindness and compassion provided to Bill, and extended to all of the family members by the ER professionals at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre; in particular, Dr. Tim Gash, Dr. John McConnell and Nurses, Shauna, Loretta and Chelsea, as Bill’s time with us came to a peaceful end.
