Linda Yin-Ling Lau passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Extendicare Michener Hill facility in Red Deer Canada on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at the age of 71. Linda, Fok Yin-Ling, was born in Hong Kong to Fok Sum and Tam Wai-Chun on October 31, 1951.
From a young age, Linda learned the value of a good education and excelled scholastically. After a school friend was baptized, she met with missionaries and became converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She faithfully dedicated her life to serving the Lord, attending weekday activities, and serving in different capacities in the congregation. After graduating from secondary school, Linda left Hong Kong to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She worked extremely hard to fund her own education and even though English was her second language, graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography; a tribute to her love for traveling and seeing new sights.
After her graduation, Linda returned to Hong Kong to serve a proselytizing mission. It was there that she became acquainted with a fellow missionary named Frankie Lau. Their friendship developed through handwritten letters, and after both their missions concluded, they continued their correspondence with long-distance calls and many letters. Frankie proposed to Linda in August 1977, and they were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on December 16, 1977. Their young family made several big moves in pursuit of education and employment while raising five very adaptable children, with stops including Hawaii, Louisiana, Hong Kong, Utah, and finally Alberta, Canada, where Linda resided until her passing.
Linda was a passionate and vibrant woman who loved music and instilled that same love in all her children. She lived her life serving her family, driving to and from their musical lessons, church activities, and school extracurriculars, while somehow always making sure they had food on the dinner table. She loved serving at church and was a great teacher. Her health and vitality declined over these recent years, following her diagnosis of Frontotemporal dementia in 2009.
Linda is lovingly remembered by her husband, Frankie Lau, and son, Ezra Lau, and daughters, Aurelia Crider (Jon), Bernice Madsen (Jack), Camilla Edwards (Matthew), and Dorothy Hansen (Don), 13 grandchildren (Zoe, Zane, Elijah and Eve Crider; Jack, Mailee, Kai and Jade Madsen; Bethany, Rachel, Andrea, Elizabeth and Benjamin Edwards), and her brother Kenneth Fok. She is predeceased by both parents and three brothers. Linda will also be missed by many other friends and family. A Funeral Service was held on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 8 Keast Way, Red Deer, Alberta at 5:00 p.m.
