Elvira Gay Thompson passed away suddenly at Villa Marie Covenant Care, Red Deer on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at the age of 67 years. After suffering with medical issues, she left us all reminiscing and remembering this unforgettable woman. Elvira was born on April 4, 1955 in Lacombe, Alberta, to Claude James Seaton Thompson and Lorraine Elvira (nee Sayre) McClean. During her life, you would often find her working at Drayton Valley Carpet Centre, or the Pembina River Nurseries, and traveling Alberta’s countryside to different farmer’s markets to greet you with a smile, making friends along the way. She became a devoted Christian who could cook up an incredible country style meal and the most scrumptious cookies. Her willingness to help and her generosity to her neighbors was true blue and will not be forgotten. As a true Alberta Country Girl riding horses and running free. She lived in various small towns, and along the countryside, in such places as Lacombe, Drayton Valley, Ponoka, Rocky Mountain House, and Red Deer. She did reside for awhile in Whitehorse in the Yukon; however, she came back home to the province she loved the most. Elvira was a mother to Colter James Stephen Waldren; mother-in-law to Amanda; and grandmother to Alyzandra. She grew up with her brothers and sisters, Diane Adele Brown, William Dalton Seaton, Allan Eugene Thompson, Elizabeth Anne Thompson, and Todd Edward McClean. Elvira was a loving aunt to Mathew Thompson, Amy Thompson, Drew Thompson, Daniel Thompson, Jack Walker, Ruth Storm, Cindy Brown, Dawn Thompson, Roquel McClean, Magnum McClean and Summit McClean, to whom she will be missed. A special Thank You to many friends and extended family for being a part of her life: The Coverdales, The Sheridons, The Rankins, and the Wilcox families plus many, many more. A Celebration of Elvira’s Life will be held at a later date when family from far away can have the opportunity to attend. If desired, Memorial Donations in Elvira’s honor may be made directly to the Mental Health Foundation at www.mentalhealthfoundation.ca. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com
In Loving Memory of a True Wild Alberta Rose
If she welcomed you in, it was with a country girl style,
Offering a beverage and a delightful treat enticing you to sit and chat for a while.
Her smile was warm and comforting, like a ray of sun breaking through the clouds in the middle of a field.
Lifting away any sadness as optimism and secrets were revealed.
She was quick to crack a joke like lightning on a clear day,
It might catch you off guard, but you would chuckle away.
In her younger years, she could dance the two step like a little dust devil in the coulee spinning tight.
And her eyes would always sparkle like the bright stars against the Rocky Mountains on a calm clear night.
When she laughed or chuckled it was like the deep water rumbling down the Bow
And when she cried it was like the water trickling down the foothills into a stream below.
She had the strength of a tornado when she felt the need.,
And it could hit hard like the Alberta hail storms indeed.
She could be calm and peaceful like a still Winter’s day,
Or as forceful as a prairie blizzard that could blow you away.
For she was strong, yet delicate and always something to behold.
Like a truly fine and beautiful Wild Alberta Rose.
