Flora Mary Ambrose passed away peacefully at Timberstone Mews in Red Deer, AB on February 18, 2023 at the age of 88 years. Flora was Born in Medicine Hat, Alberta in 1934. The daughter of a forest ranger, she spent her first seven years living in the Cyprus Hills ranger station before moving to Irvine, AB at the start of World War II. After graduating with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta, and seeking adventure, Flora travelled the world extensively for several years. She entered the teaching profession which eventually led her to a position as the High School librarian in Stettler, Alberta where she raised her two adopted sons… the first single parent in Alberta with that distinction. After retiring in 1990, she once again spent time abroad on many adventures eventually settling in Red Deer where she spent her remaining years. Flora was an avid Bridge player and big supporter of the Red Deer Bridge Club. She was thrilled to achieve her Life Master in 1999. She had a sharp wit and was a skilled storyteller with many worldly tales to entertain her audience. Failing health slowed her dramatically in her final years, but she still enjoyed the company of her family and community. Flora is lovingly remembered by her sons, Jason (Melissa) and Cameron (Donna) Ambrose, her sisters, Dorothy Braham, Jenny (Robert) King-Brown, and Jean Bell, her grandchildren, Russell and Arlynn Ambrose, Courtney (Kyler) Kochan, and Charmaine (Tyler) Martin, and her great grandchildren, Hudson and Cody Kochan and Quinn and Bennett Martin. Flora is predeceased by her brother, George Ambrose. At Flora’s request, there will be no public funeral service. The family will celebrate her life at an appropriate time.
