Kenneth ‘Duane’ Martin, of Red Deer, AB, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre at the age of 92.
Duane was born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan to Covey and Vera Martin, the eldest of 5 children. He met and married a young teacher, Dolores Kool, of Laporte, Saskatchewan in 1954, and they started their life journey together. With a chosen career in the oil and gas industry, they moved as the job required, having their three children, Jeffrey, Jim and Jana along the way.
Settling in Red Deer, he was an avid Oilers and Roughriders’ fan, who loved watching sports, especially his grandchildren’s curling, volleyball, basketball or soccer events. He and Dolores were active members of Deer Park Alliance Church as well as avid RV campers who traveled through western Canada and the US. He always had a joke, a witty response and a nickname for everyone he knew.
Duane was proud of his family and considered it his greatest legacy
He is lovingly remembered by his children Jeff (Loretta) Martin, Jim (Lynn) Martin and Jana (Scott) Erichson and his grandchildren, Tanya Martin (Luis), Dayna Power (Alex), Jilaine Porterfield (Louis) and his great grandchildren Antonio, Ezekiel, Ellis and Clark. Duane is survived by sisters Lorna Dunn, Margie Chatham and Elaine Kowpak, sisters-in-law Faye Dalrymple and Gertrude Kool; brothers-in-law, Murray Dalrymple and Leonard Smith, nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews.
Duane was predeceased by his wife and best friend Dolores in 2003, his mother and father, his brother Larry Martin, sister-in law Freda Martin, brothers- in-law, Mike Kowpak, Ken Dunn, Ron Chatham and Blair Kool and grandson Robert Martin.
A special thanks to Dr. Larue and the Nursing Staff of Unit 23 at the Red Deer Regional Health Care Center for their kind and compassionate care.
A Celebration of Duane’s Life will be held at a later date.
“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.”
