It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, Dorothy May Sherman, on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at the age of 81 years, due to unexpected complications from a lifelong health condition. Dorothy was born on July 4, 1941 and spent most of her life in Lloydminster, Alberta. After a decade of driving the bus for the mentally challenged, she began her career as a postal worker for Canada Post. She was a dedicated employee at the Lloydminster post office for twenty-six years. After her retirement, Dorothy moved to Penhold, Alberta, closer to her daughters, grandchildren and aunty, Jean Sweet. Dorothy was an avid and knowledgeable gardener. She took great pleasure digging in the dirt and keeping an impeccable garden. She spent many hours ensconced in reading, continuously feeding her brilliant literary mind. Dorothy was forever with a book in her hands or doing crossword puzzles to keep her mind sharp. She was not your average “elderly” woman, she was independent and active, practicing Thai Chi, taking Zumba classes and golfing with her grandson, Matthew. Dorothy was also an active member of a lovely group of women belonging to the ‘Red Hatters Society’, which she enjoyed immensely. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her two daughters, Rebecca Sherman and Tracy Sherman, her grandchildren, Matthew MacKenzie, Jacob Smith, Sami Parker, and Cassandra Kostelnyk. She will also be dearly missed by her surviving siblings and their spouses, Donna Burtenshaw (Stuart) and Susan Paulhus (Aurele) as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Ida and Henry Willment, a brother, Alex Willment and a sister, Carol Adams. In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes, a Service will not be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will be announced later this year. If desired, Memorial Donations in Dorothy’s honor may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation at www.heartandstroke.ca.
