William (Ian) Stirton passed away February 2, 2023, at the age of 89. He was born on July 17, 1933 in the James River area, west of Sundre. His family moved from James River to a farm in the Ennerdale District, west of Olds when Ian was 7 years old. Ian attended Hainstock School and Red Deer Composite High School. Upon completing school, he began his life’s work in the Alberta oil patch. Ian married Fay Somers in 1956. He worked for Mobil Oil and in the early years of their marriage they moved several times, living in Buck Creek, Drayton Valley & Whitecourt. They then moved to Olds in 1963, where Ian worked at the Wimborne Plant until 1980. He was then transferred to both Lloydminster and Bonnyville. Fay and Ian moved to their farm east of Olds in 1989, when Ian took early retirement. He had worked for Mobil Oil for 33 years. After retirement Ian consulted for several oil companies, farmed, traveled the world and his favorite pastime, woodworking. He was a craftsman and built many beautiful things for his family and friends. Ian and Fay moved from the farm back into Olds in 2010, where they have enjoyed a quieter retirement. Ian is survived by his wife, Fay, daughters, Bonnie Sheppard, Carol (Dwayne) Jewitt. Grand children, Alex (Aaron) Hogarth, Eric (Lexi) Carlson, Abby (Keaton) Lachance and Sydney (Joel) White. Great Grand Children, Liam, Ethan & Ava Hogarth and Lincoln Carlson.
