Shirley Goertzen of Steinbach, Manitoba, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Thursday January 26, 2023, at the age of 61.
Shirley was born in Steinbach, Manitoba, in April of 1961 to Tina and Heinrich (Hank) Goertzen. She was raised in Manitoba and moved to Red Deer in 1991. That was when she met her best friend and mentor, Sally, who took her in and cared for her. Shirley was known for her beautiful smile and infectious laugh. She loved a good joke and enjoyed playing tricks on people. Shirley always saw the best in people and would give the shirt off her back to help others. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. We would like to thank Red Deer Regional Hospital Unit 31 and Dialysis Unit.
Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her brothers Peter (Myrna), and Jerry; her two nephews Cody and Brandon, and her niece Tieghan; as well as numerous other friends and relatives. Shirley was predeceased by Sally LacSalle; her parents Hank and Tina; as well as her brothers Henry and Bernie.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held at the Pioneer Lodge located at 4324 – 46a Ave in Red Deer, Alberta on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any of the following charities: Alberta SPCA, Diabetes Canada, Red Deer Regional Hospital Dialysis Unit, or the Schizophrenia Society of Canada.
