With heavy hearts, our Family announces the unexpected passing of Robert James Cranston on Saturday, January 21, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 78.
Robert was born on January 3, 1945 in Trochu, Alberta where he met and was married to Valerie Enzie for 57 years. He is survived by his wife, Valerie, and his four children: Darcey Cranston, Barbara Gorr, Robbie Cranston (Christina Simpson) and Patty Cranston, as well as two grandchildren, Ashley Gorr (Jeffrey Shippelt) and Chelsey Devaleriola (Kevin) and one great granddaughter Vienna Shippelt. Robert is also survived by his three sisters, Ann Parsons, Norma Surbey (Jack), and Elizabeth Mus (Ken) and one brother John Cranston along with numerous nieces and nephews. Robert is predeceased by his parents, Marcella and Vernon, brother Paddy Cranston (Helen), and most recently, his son-in-law Brian Gorr.
Robert had a work ethic like no other. His career involved numerous years as a heavy duty mechanic and equipment operator for the County of Kneehill. He also branched off creating his own earth moving business “Cranston Construction” to include many projects, most notably the Trochu Golf Course. Robert was a man of all trades and could also be found welding and farming. He had a love for animals like no other; most recently his dog of 17 years, Jeda. Robert had an incredible sense of humor having the innate ability to make those around
him laugh. It is a known fact that the community lost one of its most kindest, honest, and generous resident.
To respect Robert’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Over several years, Robert was a great donator to S.T.A.R.S Air Ambulance and in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his name.
