Joey Manson
June 5, 1986 – January 16, 2023
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Joey Manson on January 16, 2023 at the age of 36. Anyone who met him knew that his capacity for love and kindness was limitless.
Joey worked as a Paramedic for 16 years where his life revolved around helping others. Since his passing his family has received countless stories about how “Jo-Jo” helped their family during their darkest hours. However, one first responder job was not enough. Joey joined the Sylvan Lake fire department to continue saving lives (but also because he always wanted to drive a firetruck). Joey’s love for music was contagious. He was a dedicated Tragically Hip fan and a skilled drummer and guitarist. He loved to jam in the basement of his childhood home and eventually went on to play in several bands. Joey was always up for an adventure. He competed in numerous triathlons every summer and snowboarded in the winter. His neighbors in Sylvan Lake no doubt will remember him cruising around the neighborhood on his One Wheel. Joey’s legacy is evident in the impact he has had on the lives of everyone around him. He will be forever missed by his wife Kelsey Manson, mother Sandie Allen, father Donald Manson (Cheryl), brother Daniel Manson (Juli), and his nephews and nieces. He will also be missed by his EMS and Fire Department families and friends in Sylvan Lake, Red Deer, Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver. Joey’s sense of wit and humor was infamous. He could find something funny in any situation and he never missed an opportunity to make someone laugh. Joey always seemed to know when someone around him needed that the most.
Please join us for a life celebration memorial of Joey’s life on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Sylvan Lake Community Center (4725 43 St). There will also be a gathering afterwards at the Sylvan Lake Legion, (4916 50 Ave).
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Boots on the Ground Alberta (https://botgalberta.com/), a charitable organization that provides peer support and suicide prevention to First Responders in Alberta.
