Mrs. Isobel Paton Hoyum (nee Hamilton) passed away at the West Park Lodge, Red Deer, with her family by her side, on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the age of 95 years. Isobel was born on February 23, 1927 in Avonbridge, Scotland. At eighteen years old, Isobel immigrated to Canada from her home in Scotland. She was a war bride to her first husband, Nels, whom she spent forty-seven years of her life with. Nels and Isobel lived in several places across British Columbia, including Kelowna, Surrey and Langley. She was a hard worker and dedicated employee at Safeway where she worked for many years before retiring. After Nels passed away, Isobel moved to Alberta and was fortunate enough to find her second love, Jack Hyland, whom she spent twenty-six years of her life with. In her retirement, she enjoyed travelling to Scotland, across Canada and into the United States. Isobel had a wonderful life and she will be missed by many. Isobel will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jean of Red Deer, Alberta, her son, Nelson (Debbie) of Chilliwack, British Columbia, her granddaughter, Rhonda (Rod) of Gull Lake, Alberta, and her great grandson, Jake of Red Deer, Alberta. She will also be sadly missed by her brother, Craig (Fran) of Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia, her sister-in-law, Norma of Nanaimo, British Columbia, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Isobel was predeceased by her husband of forty-seven years, Nels, her husband of twenty-six years, Jack, her brothers, Ian, Wallace (Minnie), Thomas (Jessie), Dick (Irene) and Jim (Norma), and her parents, Bill and Jean Hamilton. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Isobel’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the Nurses, Heath Care Aides and Staff at the West Park Lodge for taking such wonderful care of Isobel during her years spent there. A Private Graveside Service will be held in British Columbia at a later date.
