RCMP in Ponoka investigating double hit and run

Dec 3, 2022 | 10:59 AM

RCMP in Ponoka are seeking information about what they say is a pair of hit and runs with vehicles which occurred earlier this week.

It was about 2 p.m. on Nov. 30 when members responded to the first report of a hit and run collision in the town, involving an SUV. This one occurred with another vehicle that was moving at or near 49 Avenue and 50 Street.

Twenty minutes later, another call came in about a hit and run involving what is believed to be the same suspect vehicle. This time, the alleged hit and run occurred, again with a moving vehicle, at or near Hwy 2A and Hwy 604, south of town.

The second time, the vehicle was disabled, police say, and witnesses reported the two suspects fleeing on foot. RCMP then located the damaged SUV, a 2015 Jeep Cherokee.

A search revealed quantities of meth and cocaine, and they located and seized a loaded .22 calibre handgun and ammunition.

Police continue to investigate.
