Red Deerians open up home for Christmas tree display once again

Nov 25, 2022 | 2:00 PM

Two passionate Red Deerians are once again at it with their amazing Christmas tree display this weekend.

Visits to the home of Vince Jackman and Tom Kereluk to see their 130+ trees are by donation to the Central Alberta Humane Society. Donations may be monetary or in the form of an item needed by the Humane Society.

LIST OF ITEMS NEEDED

Visitors are welcome from 1-4 p.m., both Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 26 and 27, at 42 Comfort Close. You are asked to RSVP by emailing vincetom@hotmail.com.

The event itself is called Sofia’s Weekend, named after their chihuahua who passed away five years ago.

Sofia was a rescue, just like their other animals, including recent adoptee Chicco, also a chihuahua.

“Sofia had so many medical problems, but we had the resources to give her the longest life she could live given the circumstances, and we’re so glad we met her and that she became a part of our life,” says Kereluk.

“There are so many animals out there who truly need forever homes, but I do warn people that you must be sure you have the home and are dedicated to your animal. For some it doesn’t work out, and they get passed around, so be sure of yourself if you’re going to rescue.”

Jackman is also now a board member for the Humane Society, so the couple have been privy to hearing more and more sad stories of animals who are brought in.

“Those stories make us want to do this even more and raise more donations for the Society,” says Kereluk. “It’s a cause that is very dear to our hearts.”
