It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Victor Joseph Labrecque, with two of his children, Richard and Michelle by his side, on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at the age of 76 years. He was raised on the farm near Spirit River, Alberta. Victor went to Grade School in Spirit River and attended High School in Fahler. He was also an active member of the Catholic Church. After High School, he attended SAIT and attained his Agricultural Mechanic Certification. He also attained a Journeyman Plumbing and Gas Fitting Ticket. On January 26, 1973, he married Simone Regimbald. They began their married life together on a grain farm near Spirit River, Alberta, and continued farming for another eighteen years. In 1991, they sold the farm and moved to Red Deer, Alberta. Victor was diagnosed with Inclusion Body Myositis in July 2004, a rare, progressive, and debilitating muscle disease. He was placed in care at Bethany Sylvan Lake in January 2010, and then transferred to Michener Extendicare in Red Deer in February 2011. Victor’s greatest love was his wife and family. He will be fondly remembered for his love of the farm and his passion for hunting, fishing, and aviation. He obtained his Private Pilot’s License through the Fairview Flying Club and eventually bought his own plane. He greatly enjoyed quadding and camping in the west country with family and friends. He also enjoyed tinkering in his shop doing woodwork and working on machinery and vehicles. Victor will be lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-nine years, Simone, his eldest son, Denis (Cristy) Labrecque and his grandchildren, Jenee (Blake Goguen) and Kenzie Labrecque; his son, Richard (Karen) Labrecque and his grandchildren, Liam, Averie and Emma Labrecque; his daughter, Michelle (Randy) Looy and his grandchildren, Ryan, Austin and Daniel Looy. He will also be sadly missed by his brothers, Phillip (Cindy) and Clem (Angela) Labrecque, and his sister, Barb (Dale) Strome. Victor was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Renee Labrecque, his brother, Ernie Labrecque, his sisters, Sylvia Cyr and Jeanne Chailler. We are thankful he is now at peace with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Funeral Mass was Celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Father Mirek Kostarzewski, Celebrant.
