Rose Jenic passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer, in Red Deer, Alberta, on Friday, October 21, 2022 at the age of 71 years.
Rose will be lovingly remembered by her wonderful sister, Diggy; her son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Carrie; her grandchildren, Zachary and Jessica; her nieces, Toni-Rae and Tessa; along with Tessa’s children, TJ, Karli Rose and Kelli-Rae; her nephew, Cody and Cody’s children, Nate and Sophie; as well as many other half-siblings, great and great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom Rose loved very deeply.
Rose also had a very special place in her heart for her beloved dog and companion, Cubby.
Rose was predeceased by both of her parents, as well as her long-time life partner and dear friend, Gary Darroch.
Rose immigrated to Canada from Germany with her parents when she was only sixteen months old; and her family was lucky enough to settle in the beautiful town of Banff, Alberta. Although Rose moved on to live in various places throughout her life, she remembered Banff fondly and maintained lifelong friendships from her youth spent there.
Rose was never content to be still and was always ready and willing to take on the next challenge or adventure. Her quest for new knowledge was continuous. Whether it was to take a course, obtain new skills, learn to play the guitar, try a new recipe, start a new project or business, or to nurture her pursuit of philosophy – Rose’s being “do not judge as you do not know their story”.
Rose’s creativity was endless and could be seen in her unique style, her beautiful paintings, her poems and stories and her wonderful garden, which she was always happy to feed you from.
If you were to ask anyone who knew Rose to describe her – most certainty the words strong and independent would be used. Her strength and independence were unwavering – and, often times, helped others to find their own.
Rose loved her family and friends with all her heart and will be forever remembered by all who knew her.
A special thank-you to the family members who stood by her side throughout her fight.
Our deepest appreciation to the staff at the Red Deer Hospice for lovingly caring for our Rose in her final journey. As per Rose’s request, there will be no service at this time. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
While we struggle to grieve such an immense loss, Rose’s own words from a poem she wrote may bring us some comfort.
Untitled Poem ~ By Rose Jenic (2018)
One day I shall die
and no longer be I
at least not the same old me
that I used to be.
And although no longer will I be seen
just go to your memories of where I have been
and cheer me on as I depart
to my next adventure wherever I art!
Then kick up your heels and frolic and play
for life is often too hard, so don’t delay.
Inhale to the fullest every single day
and warrior on, come what may.
Treasure each memory, for its part of your plan
and remember we are but mortal man.
Forgiving others is a must
and, also, in yourself, place your trust.
