Potential recovery centre in Lacombe County moves ahead; residents raise concerns
Lacombe County council passed third reading last week to amend a Land Use bylaw that would allow for a recovery centre near the Summer Village of Birchcliff.
At their regular meeting on Oct. 24, council voted 6-1 to add the discretionary use of a “recovery centre” to the 80 hectares of land, deemed an Agricultural District. With its sole entry by the Jarvis Bay Access Road (Township Road 39-2), the land is near the Summer Village of Birchcliff, The Slopes on Sylvan Lake, and Jarvis Bay Provincial Park.
The initial request was made in December 2021 by Work on That Inc, on behalf of Adeara, an accredited addiction recovery centre for women.
