Elmer Stang passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at the age of 74 years. He was born in Macklin, Saskatchewan to Ed and Anna Stang and grew up on the family farm with his fourteen siblings. Following the completion of his Communication Electrician Diploma, he began his thirty-five-year career with AGT/Telus. Elmer had a strong commitment to his Catholic faith and to his community volunteering many years with the Big Brothers Association and the Red Deer Christmas Bureau. Elmer’s competitive spirit as both a baseball and hockey participant and coach provided him with enjoyment and gratification. He cherished his time with his children and grandchildren, attending their activities, and was their biggest fan. After retiring, Elmer and Barb continued to make wonderful friends and memories during winters spent in Arizona. He loved to dance and play his guitar but of course golf was a favorite pastime. Elmer was a true jack of all trades. Often pre-planning on his spreadsheet, no project was too large or too small! A favorite day in Elms’ life began with an early tee time at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club with his buddies, followed by a quick afternoon snooze on his backyard swing before enjoying a family barbeque and fire…repeat! Elmer will be lovingly missed by his beloved wife of forty-nine years, Barb, his daughter, Melanie (Jakob Tornqvist), Isabel and Ava, and his son, Ian (Jill) Stang, Emmett, Lyla and Merek. He will also be sadly missed by his siblings, Ed (Irene), Celine (Leo), Imelda (Hans), Tillie (Lloyd), Arnie (Sally), Leo (Marie), Jacinta (Maurice), Benno (Linda), Theresa, Francis (Carolyn), and a large extended family. Elmer was predeceased by his parents, his siblings, Angelica, Tom, Bill and Dennis, his brothers-in-law, Ralph, Ron, and Stuart and his sister-in-law, Lucy. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Elmer’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society at www.reddeerhospice.com or to The Lending Cupboard at www.lendingcupboard.ca.
