More record breaking temperatures for parts of central Alberta on Tuesday

Some late season heat continued throughout many parts of the province on Tuesday, including some record-breaking temperatures for a handful of communities in central Alberta.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Red Deer area set a new daily maximum temperature record of 24.7 degrees Celsius on October 18, surpassing the previous record high for that date of 24.6 degrees set in 1978. Meteorologists say records in this area have been kept since 1904.

Elsewhere throughout central Alberta, in the Three Hills area, a new record of 26.9 degrees Celsius was set for October 18, beating the old record of 24.0 degrees set in 1978. Records in this area have been kept since 1921.

In the Nordegg area, a new record high of 22.7 degrees Celsius was set for Oct. 18, beating the old record of 20.6 degrees set in 1974. Records in this area have been kept since 1915.

In the Sundre area, a new record of 25.5 degrees Celsius was set for Oct. 18, beating the previous record high for that date of 22.2 degrees set in 2003. Records in this area have been kept since 1993.

In the Breton area, a new record of 23.3 degrees Celsius was set for Oct. 18, beating the old record of 23.0 degrees set in 2003. Records have been kept in this area since 1939.
