Sep 21, 2022 | 3:32 PM

UPDATE 2 – 1 p.m., Sept. 22

RCMP now say one person has been arrested following an incident in Sylvan Lake Wednesday afternoon.

During the course of executing a police operation at a home on Lakeway Boulevard, police entered the residence and were confronted, they say, by a suspect pointing a firearm at officers.

RCMP repositioned outside the home and contained the area.

Officers from the RCMP Emergency Response Team, Red Deer Police Dog Services and Innisfail RCMP detachments also attended.

RCMP go on to say that later in the evening, Emergency Response Team members entered the residence and located the suspect who was then arrested.

During the arrest, RCMP Police Service Dog Kitzel suffered multiple injuries and then was taken to an area Emergency Vet Clinic where he underwent surgery. PSD Kitzel is now recovering from the injuries received, police say.

Meantime, the suspect sustained minor injuries for which he was treated at the detachment by EMS.

Due to the nature of the incident, RCMP say they are unable to provide additional details.

Sylvan Lake RCMP advise that the police incident on Lakeway Boulevard is now over. Officers remain at the scene but there is no further risk.

The investigation continues at this time and an update will follow tomorrow (Thursday).

Sylvan Lake RCMP say they are currently on-scene of a police incident on Lakeway Boulevard in Sylvan Lake.

RCMP currently have a residence contained, they say, and are working to contain the surrounding area.

Children walking home from school are being asked to wait for parents.
