Mr. Hans-Dieter ‘Hans’ Richard Filter passed away in his home, on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the age of 81 years. Hans and Heidi were married on October 1, 1962 in Kiel, Germany. In 1965, they immigrated to Canada. With very little money, and no real plan, they eventually settled in Fort St. John, British Columbia, where they raised their family. He worked as many jobs as it took to provide for the family and established a career as an accountant. After retirement, they moved to Red Deer to be close to their daughters and grandkids. Family was everything to Hans. He was a selfless man with great pride, dignity, compassion for people less fortunate, and the most generosity a person could have. He was athletic, an avid reader, and very knowledgeable on absolutely any topic. He was incredible at woodworking and he made sure that everyone in the family had one of his beautiful projects. He donated to many charities and always did his part to give back to society. Everyone loved his dry and witty sense of humor. He always viewed things as black or white, always did the right thing, and always took the high road. He really was someone to look up to. Through the good and bad times he was the foundation of our family. Words can’t express how much we will all miss him. Hans will be lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-nine years, Heidi Filter, his daughters, Petra (Lynden) Dyjur, Diana (Tyler) Bodie, his grandchildren, Brittney, Kayla, Sarah, Christine and Amy, and his great grandchildren, Marcus, Tyler, Gavin, Reilyn, Scarlett and Greyson. He will also be sadly missed by his sister, Ilona Scheurer, and his nieces and nephews, as well as extended family in Germany. Hans was predeceased by his mother and father, Hans and Edie Filter, a sister, Sylvia, and a son-in-law, Curtis. As per his wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. He would be honored to have any charity receive a donation in his name.
