Dorothy (Dot) Lorena Schmitt was born April 29, 1936 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan
and passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sept 8, 2022 at the age of
86.
Dot lovingly leaves behind husband Earl, son Kim (Gail) and their children,
Benjamin and his daughter Ariana, Laura (Carlos) Manzanares, and their children
Emilio and Nicco; Son Barry (Nancy) and their children Tyler (Miranda), Taylor
(Kassandra), Ryley (Nicole), Ronan (Kyla) and Rayelle, and Sister in law Elaine.
Dot was married to Earl Schmitt in Saskatoon on November 26, 1955. They were
happily married for 67 years. He was the love of her life and he lovingly held her
hand as she passed away. Their love and marriage endured many challenges
including the death of son Kelly in 1978. Their love and commitment to each
other carried them through and has become a model for all the family to follow.
Family was very important to Dot. Getting the family together for celebrations
was always a highlight. Dot enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and
took a lot of interest in their lives. Dot also took great pride in her home.
Dot was a great sports fan attending ball games and the hockey games of sons,
grandsons and granddaughter. She liked to watch and listen to sports on tv and
was an avid Flames fan.
In Dot’s younger years she worked as a telephone operator and was a Kinette in
Outlook, Sask and enjoyed donating time and giving back to the community. She
had a loving heart and a helping hand. She managed an apartment complex for
many years.
Dot and Earl spent over 30 years living in Outlook, Sask. before moving to Edson
for 11 years and then retiring in Olds, Alberta for the last 21 years.
Dot was the youngest of 9 and predeceased by son Kelly, parents Lilian and Alex
Carswell, Brother Nelson, Ernest, Lorne (Tom), Larry and sisters Myrtle, Iona,
Gertrude, Lorna.
