New survey spotlights e-scooters’ impact on local economy

One of Red Deer’s several e-scooter companies is looking for feedback from businesses in the form of a survey put out in collaboration with the Red Deer and District Chamber of Commerce.

According to Neuron, e-scooters have already had a noticable positive impact on the economy.

A national rider survey from last year suggests 81 per cent of riders in Red Deer used an e-scooter to visit a restaurant, cafe or explore the city.

Almost 60 per cent confirmed they made purchases during their most recent trip, says Neuron.

The company adds that another nearly 10 per cent of trips would not have happened at all if the e-scooters were not available, riders stated.

“[This shows] that the introduction of micromobility options like e-scooters increases resident and tourist travel and purchases around the city,” Neuron says.

In a new initiative, Neuron is seeking input to inform how the city’s shared e-scooter program is impacting local businesses, organizations and tourism.

Feedback collected through a short survey of Chamber members will be compiled in a report and shared later this year.
