Sep 16, 2022 | 11:21 AM

Authorities have charged a 72-year-old Red Deer man with multiple child porn-related offenses.

ALERT spokesman Mike Tucker confirms to rdnewsNOW that on Aug. 25, police, including local RCMP, seized a number of electronic devices from an apartment building in the 3700 block of 51 Avenue.

Robert Crawshaw, 72, was arrested on-site.

“The investigation stemmed from a referral by RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Crime Centre regarding an unknown Alberta-based suspect sharing child pornography via a social media application,” says Tucker in a statement.

“Crawshaw was previously unknown to the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit. The investigation appears to be online in nature. We don’t believe any child is necessarily at-risk or was physically harmed upon. Currently we are not looking for any victims.”

According to Alberta Justice, Crawshaw is charged for offenses that took place between March 2, 2022 and July 3, 2022.

The charges are as follows:

-did make, print, publish or possess for the purpose of publishing, child pornography – CC 163.1(2)

-did possess child pornography – CC 163.1(4)

-did access child pornography – CC 163.1(4.1)

Crawshaw was released from custody following his arrest and appeared in Red Deer provincial court on Sept. 15. He is scheduled to appear again on Oct. 6.
