Football Alberta High School Football Rankings Week #2

Sep 13, 2022 | 10:25 AM

Here are the Weekly Top-10 Rankings for all four Tiers of 12-man high school football in Alberta and the 6-man rankings as well for the 2022 season.

These rankings will come out every Sunday until November 7. At that time, those will be the last rankings and teams will take that rank into Provincials.

The teams are slotted into Tiers based on their estimated school size over a three-year average by the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association. Please note that games vs. US opponents, scrimmages, or tournaments are not taken into consideration for ranking or listed in the overall record of the schools.

GAME(S) OF THE WEEK:

Local Bragging Rights Games

GAME #1 – #8 Foothills Falcons (Tier I) vs. #1 (Tier II) Holy Trinity Academy Knights

7:00 p.m., Friday, September 16, Knights Field at HTA (Okotoks)

GAME #2 – Lloydminster Barons (Tier II) vs. #2 (Tier III) Holy Rosary Raiders

4:00 p.m., Friday, September 16, Armstrong Field (Lloydminster)

There is nothing better than a cross-town rivalry between two excellent programs to spend a Friday night watching (or afternoon as it were for Game #2). Outside of the big cities and Strathcona County, you won’t find more high school football excellence than in the communities of Okotoks and Lloydminster respectfully. The annual tilts between the Falcons and Knights in Okotoks and the Barons and Raiders in Lloydminster are must-see events in their respective municipalities.

In Okotoks, Foothills dominated the competition with the Knights early on since HTA’s start in the 1990’s, but lately it’s been the Knights by a healthy margin. The Falcons population has moved them up to Tier I so it’s no longer a Tier II qualifier game, but don’t let that fool you – it will be wild at HTA on Friday.

In Lloydminster, the Barons are still on the outside looking in as far as rankings go in Tier II this season but they still put a quality product on the field each year and always have battles with the powerful Tier III sized Raiders every regular season. Alberta is the heartland of high school football in Canada and there will be no better representatives than these two games on Friday.
