Sep 10, 2022 | 10:16 PM

The Red Deer Rebels fell to 0-2 in exhibition play Saturday, dropping a 4-2 decision in the back half of a pre-season home and home with the Calgary Hitmen.

Last night, they lost 6-3 at the Tsuut’ina Seven Chiefs Sportsplex in Calgary.

Saturday’s game was played at the Centrium, with scoring getting started at the 8:05 mark, Zac Funk (1st) making it 1-0 Calgary.

Matteo Danis (1st) doubled the lead to 2-0 at 17:00, and that’s how it stayed through the break.

In the second, Rebels forward Matthew Gard (1st) cut the lead to one at 2:52, with newly acquired d-man Mats Lindgren getting an assist.

But before the period was out, Maxim Muranov (1st) scored shorthanded at 15:01 and Billal Noori (1st) added a powerplay tally at 19:19 to close out 40 minutes for the Hitmen up 4-1.

In the third, the Rebels couldn’t muster much, but left winger Arjun Bawa (1st), the son of former Vancouver Canuck Robin Bawa — the NHL’s first player of Indian descent — put one in the back of the net. Kalan Lind earned the helper, at 9:08.

Rhett Stoesser stopped 30 of 34 shots in the loss for Red Deer, while Ethan Buenaventura faced 17 shots and stopped 15.

The Rebels have two pre-season games left, Sept. 16 in Lethbridge, and the next night against the Hurricanes at home, with a 7 p.m. puck drop.

The regular season begins Sept. 23 and 24 with a home and home series against the Edmonton Oil Kings.

The puck drops for the home opener on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. Get your tickets at ticketsalberta.com.
