Preliminary hearing scheduled for Red Deer man charged in local drug bust

Aug 26, 2022 | 1:04 PM

A preliminary hearing is scheduled to take place next year for a Red Deer man charged in a local drug bust last winter.

Randi Walter St. Germain, 41, will see if his case has enough evidence to go to trial on March 10, 2023, in Red Deer provincial court.

St. Germain was one of two people charged after an investigation by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) earlier this year.

ALERT says that on Jan. 26, 2022, members executed a search warrant at a Red Deer home in Vanier Woods. This was said to have capped a three-month investigation with the assistance of Red Deer RCMP.

The search warrant is alleged to have turned up the following:

  • Loaded shotgun;
  • 414 grams of methamphetamine;
  • 174 suspected fentanyl pills;
  • 28 grams of cocaine;
  • $4,450 cash

According to ALERT, the drugs seized had an estimated street value of $25,000, while the pills were submitted for further analysis.

St. Germain was charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, breach of a firearms prohibition order, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a loaded firearm.

Co-accused, Erick Becker, 33, was charged with drug trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and breach of a release order.

Becker is due in Didsbury provincial court on Aug. 29, 2022.
