Province announces plans to ease pressure on EMS
The Provincial Government is releasing more information on plans to ease pressure on emergency medical services (EMS) across Alberta.
100 new EMS positions are being created and another 70 temporary positions are being extended. This will allow 19 new ambulances and five support vehicles to be rolled out.
Alberta Health Services is moving quickly to fill new EMS positions, primarily in the Calgary and Edmonton zones.
According to Darren Sandbeck, chief paramedic and senior provincial director for AHS, the new normal for EMS is a 30 percent increase in call volume.
