Red Deer Hospice Society creates opportunity to celebrate, remember & give hope

May 17, 2022 | 3:58 PM

The Red Deer Hospice Society has announced their annual live butterfly release fundraiser is back.

This allows you to purchase a live butterfly to release in remembrance of a loved one, to celebrate a milestone in life or to give hope to someone who needs it, all while supporting end of life care in central Alberta.

“Every year we host a memorial butterfly release to remember and celebrate with the families who have had someone journey through Hospice in the previous year. We knew there were people in our community who wanted to continue the tradition as well as celebrate new chapters in their lives,” explained Jerri Taylor, Executive Director at the Red Deer Hospice Society. “We are honoured to share this tradition that is so special to Hospice while also creating a greater connection with our community”.

Red Deer Hospice officials say the release of butterflies is a healing experience that can comfort family and friends who have experienced a loss. They are also often considered beautiful representations of the various stages of life and demonstrate that despite adversity, simple changes and time can make life even more beautiful than before.
