SCAM ALERT: Texts from “Service Alberta” for fake $300 rebates

Albertans are being warned of a new scam making the rounds.

Consumer Protection Alberta (CPA) says in a social media post that scammers are sending out text messages, informing people of $300 rebates from the Alberta Government, which are fake.

The texts, claiming to be from Service Alberta, say, “Albertans who have been feeling the pinch of inflation will receive a $300 rebate from the provincial government. The rebate is meant to ease the financial burden of increased living costs. You may apply here:” A hyperlink follows.

Anyone who receives this message or any other electronic message claiming to offer energy rebates should not click the links or provide any personal or banking information.
