gap in coverage

Sylvan Lake care centre to be without physician for 7.5 hours on May 4

May 3, 2022 | 4:10 PM

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says the Sylvan Lake Advanced Ambulatory Care Service (SLAACS) will operate on temporarily reduced hours on May 4 due to a gap in physician coverage.

The facility will be without physician coverage from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Normal hours will resume May 5.

“These closures are temporary measures taken as a last resort. Patients arriving at SLAACS outside the hours of operation will be redirected to other care options as appropriate. These options include returning later in the day when the Service resumes, booking an appointment with their family doctor, or calling Health Link at 811 for medical information and advice,” says AHS.

“Patients can also access medical care from facilities in nearby communities, including Rocky Mountain House and Red Deer.”

AHS notes that scheduled appointments with other health services – like Public Health, laboratory and Addiction and Mental Health –at the Sylvan Lake Community Health Centre are not impacted by the temporary change in hours for SLAACS.

Patients requiring emergency medical care are to call 911.

This comes after AHS announced that as of 5 p.m. on April 29, all general surgeries would be diverted from Red Deer Regional Hospital for an indefinite period of time. AHS confirmed to rdnewsNOW on Tuesday that the diversion remains ongoing.

Hours at the SLAACS have been affected several times over the past couple years due to lack of physician coverage.
