Olds College manager of athletics wins CICan Leadership Excellence Award

Olds College has announced that Trina Radcliffe, Manager of Athletics, has been awarded the Leadership Excellence Award for Managerial Staff from Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan).

College officials say the CICan Awards of Excellence recognize best practices from institutions across the country, as well as individual leadership and achievements.

“On behalf of Olds College, I would like to congratulate Trina on receiving this distinguished award,” said Stuart Cullum, President, Olds College. “Through Trina’s leadership at Olds College we have been able to create a more inclusive campus and are proud to be home to a first rate athletics program that develops our players both on and off the court.”

Described as a community-minded leader, Radcliffe is said to have created a welcoming and inclusive culture centered around teamwork, respect, and trust. She has led the Olds College Broncos to multiple championships, but more importantly has created an athletics program that challenges students to not only be great athletes, but to be generous, community-minded team players who positively contribute to society.

Volunteering on several community committees herself, the Broncos student athletes under Radcliffe’s leadership contributed 3,700 hours actively participating in the community last year alone. She has also been instrumental in establishing the Olds College Gay Straight Alliance, and the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee.

“To be nominated for the CICan Awards of Excellence is such an incredible honour. I am privileged to get to go to work every day at an institution that supports me as a leader and also supports equity, diversity and inclusion,” shared Radcliffe. “Being able to work with and mentor our student-athletes and collaborate with other departments on campus makes my job incredibly fulfilling. I would like to thank my wife, our Broncos Athletics Team, Campus Leadership Team and Olds College Executive for their support and encouragement to be collaborative and creative on our campus and in our community.”

Radcliffe was presented with her award on April 26, 2022 at the annual CICan Conference in Halifax.
