Stay of proceedings in fatal Red Deer hit and run
There has been a stay of proceedings in a fatal hit and run in north Red Deer three years ago.
The stay means legal proceedings have been stopped or put on hold indefinitely for Tosh Verstraeten, 32, who is charged with one count of failing to stop at the scene of an accident, causing death or bodily harm.
According to RCMP, the collision happened the night of March 11, 2018 and claimed the life of 38-year-old pedestrian Darren Nickolson who was standing near a parked vehicle on the 5200 block of 76 Street in Red Deer when he was hit by a distinctive red truck that did not stop afterward.
Mounties say the suspect was eventually arrested in Nov. 2018 in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, where police say he had relocated to.
