Charges laid against driver of allegedly stolen vehicle from Lacombe

One person has been charged after RCMP located a reported stolen vehicle earlier this month.

Red Deer RCMP say it was about 10 a.m. on March 15 when members were conducting proactive patrols of “strategic crime locations” in the city’s north end when a member observed a suspicious vehicle idling outside an apartment building in the Pines area.

Police say the licence plate was checked and it was discovered that it had been reported stolen five days earlier out of Lacombe.

A member watched three occupants of the vehicle as it travelled through the city and into the county. During this time, the licence plate was allegedly swapped for another, and that plate’s registration did not match the vehicle.

At about 11:30 a.m., the vehicle stopped at a north end scrap metal business and the three occupants exited, police say. Then, RCMP arrested the occupants.

The two passengers were not charged, however, the driver, a 31-year-old woman from Red Deer County, was charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000 (x2)
  • Possession of identity documents (x2)
  • Failure to comply with undertaking

The woman was released after posting bail, and will appear in Red Deer provincial court on April 5.
