Harold was raised in the Red Deer area before joining the armed forces in 1941 during World War II. His service began with the anti-aircraft artillery (ack-ack) but it was his involvement in the Italian campaign, with the Lanark and Renfrew Scottish Canada infantry that was one of the highlights of his military career. During the war years he met his wife Joyce whom he fell in love with and married in England before returning to Canada to raise a family. Upon his return to Red Deer he began a lifelong career as a grain buyer for the United Grain Growers that lasted 38 years. He retired in 1984 to pursue his dream of pack trips in the mountains of western Alberta. He loved the sport of rodeo and could be found at various outdoor events throughout the province each summer. He had a love of sharing his stories, meeting new people, and the outdoors (fishing camping and hunting). Harold was a long standing Legion member.
Funeral services will be held on March 23 at 1 pm at St Luke’s Anglican Church 4929 54 St Red Deer.
