Red Deer with 599 active cases of COVID-19

Alberta Health is reporting 599 active cases of COVID-19 in Red Deer as of Jan. 5, up by 76 active cases from the day before.

That brings the total number of coronavirus cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic to 10,197 – up 107 from Jan. 4, while recoveries are up by 31 over the past day to 9,514.

Red Deer’s active case rate is currently 563 per 100 k population. That compares to rates of 1,162.9 in Calgary, 1,036 in Edmonton, and 695.4 in Lethbridge.

The number of COVID-related deaths in Red Deer remains at 84, with the last one reported Dec. 7, 2021.

CENTRAL ZONE

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Central Zone is 1,993, up 212 from Jan. 4.

Hospitalizations in the Central Zone are currently at 77, up one from Jan. 4, with seven of those patients receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, up one from the day before.

Total virus-related deaths in Central Zone remains at 418.

Elsewhere throughout the province, there are 19,261 active cases of COVID-19 being reported in the Calgary Zone, 14,972 active cases in the Edmonton Zone, 1,545 in the South Zone, 1,523 in the North Zone, and 603 additional cases in unconfirmed locations.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

There were 4,869 new cases of COVID-19 announced in Alberta on Wednesday, bringing the total number of active cases across the province now to 39,897 – up 2,701 over the past day.

With 12,318 tests completed over the past 24 hours, the province’s test positivity rate is roughly 39.5 per cent.

There are 6,871 active variant cases in the province, making up 17.2 per cent of all active cases.

498 Albertans are currently in hospital with COVID-19, up 28 over the past day, with 64 of those patients in ICU, down eight from Wednesday.

There have been three additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has delivered 7,794,080 vaccine doses as of Jan. 5, up 29,601 over the past day.

Of the 5+ population, 84.6 per cent has received at least one dose (79.4% total population), while 77.7 per cent of the 5+ population has received two doses (73.0% total population). 25.5 per cent of the 5+ population has received three doses, (24.0% total population).

In Red Deer, 77,335 (76.9% eligible/72.6% total population) people have received at least one dose, up 71 from Jan. 4.

Meanwhile, 72,286 (71.9% eligible/67.9% total population) residents have two doses, up 53 from Jan. 4.
