Charges pending after dangerous driving incidents in south Red Deer

Dec 23, 2021 | 12:03 PM

Red Deer RCMP say a local 28-year-old man is facing charges following multiple alleged dangerous driving incidents on Dec. 22.

It was just before 10 p.m. Wednesday night when police responded to a complaint of an impaired driver.

RCMP say they had received complaints about the vehicle being stolen and driving dangerously earlier in the day. The vehicle was located parked with the driver asleep.

When police attempted to access the vehicle, the driver woke and attempted to flee the area, striking vehicles and a tree, RCMP say.

Later, police again observed the vehicle parked. When officers tried approaching the vehicle, the driver allegedly rammed three police cars, several other parked vehicles and a fence. The driver is said to have then exited the vehicle and attempted to enter another occupied vehicle. However, police were able to arrest the suspect without further incident.

“The Red Deer RCMP are thankful to report that no officers or members of the public were injured in this incident. We are also reminding the public to refrain from leaving vehicles running with the keys inside,” a release says.

“RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance in providing any video surveillance that they may have captured of this event which originated in the Allan Street area of Red Deer.”
