1939 ~ Elizabeth (Betty) Rankin ~ 2021

It is with great sadness, the family of Elizabeth (Betty) Rankin announces that she passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice on December 9, 2021 at the age of 82 yrs old.
Betty was born in Cornerbrook, NL on October 19, 1939 and was one of three children. She married John Keith Rankin in 1959 in Gander, NL. They enjoyed military life and were stationed throughout Canada. Their last posting was at CFS Penhold. Betty worked part-time at Sears & then full-time at Woodwards until the store closed. She maintained her friendship with the girls from work and they continue to meet for lunch for many years after. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crafting and reading.
Betty will be lovingly remembered by those who survive her, including her sister Mary Power (Witless Bay, NL) daughters’ Ann (Roger Sherba) of Rocky Mountain House, AB; Susan (Mike Conroy) of Red Deer, Barbara (Wayne Sopotyk) of Prud’homme, SK and son Keith (Connie)of Sherwood Park, AB by her grandchildren Tyler Sherba(Tracy), Travis Sherba(Sonnie), Nicholas Krock, Dallas Krock (Taylor), Jamie(Kristen) Krock, Katherine(Nathan) Regnier, Justin (Leah) Sopotyk, Delaney(Zach)Schurr, Mitchell; and by ten great grandchildren: and niece Kathy Power and son Kyle.
She is predeceased by her husband John Keith Rankin, whom passed away in 1992 after 32 years of marriage, her parents John & Minnie (nee Mercer) Power and brother Lawrence Power. As well by her puppy Missy, who was her constant companion in later life.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Red Deer Hospice. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Red Deer in January. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Deer Hospice. Arrangements have been entrusted with Hainstock & Son Funeral Chapel, Leduc.
