Dale Nathan Norris went to be with his Lord and Saviour on December 6, 2021. He came into the world on September 26, 1929, in Nevis, Alberta, the fifth of six children born to Nathan and Mary Norris. Most of his formative years were spent in Erskine, a town in the Stettler area. His future wife, Alice Brown, was a childhood friend whom he grew to realize he wanted as his life-mate. They married in 1949 and together had three children.
Always ambitious and determined to provide well for his family, Dale kept advancing in his knowledge of servicing oil wells and running gas plants until he was promoted to the position of manager at a gas plant near Slave Lake, Alberta. Eventually his entrepreneurial spirit took over and he purchased Slave Lake Esso which he ran successfully for five years. After that he finished out his career operating Cloverdale Esso in Medicine Hat. From there he retired to Red Deer in 2004 where he enjoyed many good times – especially on the golf course with his dear friends.
Some of his fondest memories revolved around activities such as water-skiing, boating, and relaxing with friends and family at his cabin at Buffalo Lake. Also, he had a great love for golfing, travelling, reading, cars, and watching sports of all kinds – well, maybe not soccer. Never one to be idle, he used his amazing handy-man skills to fix-up and refresh every house he (or his children!!!) owned. With his great sense of humour, easy-going manner, and gentlemanly conduct, he attracted friends wherever he went.
He is survived by Alice Norris, his wife of 72 years, son Keith (Brigitte) Norris of Edmonton, son Allan (Audrey) Norris of Edmonton, daughter Cathy Norris of Red Deer, grand-daughter Richelle Norris of Edmonton, and sister Marian Kaufman (David) of Calgary. Special in-laws Audrey and Wally Ward of Calgary, Isabelle Norris of Calgary, and Gladys (Toots) Anderson of Stettler, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, are also left to mourn his death. Dale lived his life serving Christ, and as the end drew near, he often spoke of the joy of being reunited in heaven with his precious grandson Ryan Norris, parents Mary and Nathan Norris, brother Galen Norris, brother Gordon Norris, sister Faye Combest, and brother Lee Norris.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Hamlets for the excellent, compassionate care given to Dale.
Dale’s remains have been cremated and the family will be celebrating his life in a private ceremony. Condolences may be expressed on-line at the Parkland Funeral Home website:
