Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics is proud to announce its RDP Athletes of the Week:

1. Emma Letkeman – Queens Volleyball

Hometown – Victoria, BC. Kinesiology Fitness and Health (2nd year)

Emma Letkeman had a strong weekend on the court for the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Volleyball team. The second-year setter ran an effective offence in a pair of wins over the SAIT Trojans, which extended the Queens’ undefeated streak to eight games. In Friday’s three set victory (25-15, 25-17 and 25-21), Letkeman contributed 32 assists, two digs, one kill and an ace at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

Then on Saturday, the Kinesiology Fitness and Health student was instrumental in the RDP Queens earning another sweep over the Trojans (25-16, 27-25 and 25-18). The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) 2019/2020 Women’s Volleyball South Rookie of the Year accumulated 21 assists, three kills, two service aces and a dig in Calgary. The talented student-athlete from Victoria was recognized as the Queens Player of the Game.

Entering the break, Letkeman ranks second in the league with 9.53 assists per set. The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (8-0) sit first in the ACAC South Division with the distinct honour of not losing a single set.

2. Tucker Scantlebury – Kings Hockey

Hometown – Foxwarren, Manitoba. Carpenter Apprenticeship (2nd year)

Forward Tucker Scantlebury was a difference maker in the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Hockey team’s 4-2 home win over the Portage College Voyageurs on Friday. The Carpenter Apprenticeship student scored the Kings’ second goal and then assisted on their third marker, which turned out to be the game winner.

The first-year member of the RDP Kings, and second as a student-athlete, was named the North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game for his offensive prowess and grittiness. After four games, the hard worker from Foxwarren leads his team with six points (two goals and four assists) and sits tied for fourth spot in league points.

The young Red Deer Polytechnic Kings (2-1-1-0) are currently fourth in the standings, with the goal to move up in the latter half of the season.

As Red Deer Polytechnic student-athletes prepare for Fall 2021 Term exams, there is a break in conference play until January 2022.

Regular season action will return on Friday, January 14, when the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Hockey team will face the NAIT Ooks in Edmonton. Both RDP Basketball teams will host the St. Mary’s University Lightning on the same evening.
