Rebels win 5/7 eastern games

Rebels wrap up seven game eastern road trip with 4-2 win in Prince Albert

The Red Deer Rebels completed their eastern tour in the same way they started: with a win.

Playing against the Prince Albert Raiders, the Rebels won 4-2 at the Art Hauser Centre Friday evening.

The Raiders came in hot, however, with Hayden Pakkala scoring the first goal of the game on goaltender Chase Coward at the 6:41 mark. His third goal of the season was assisted by Zachary Wilson and Kaiden Guhle.

But at 11:55, the spotlight went to the Rebels. Blake Gustafson scored his second goal of the season on netminder Carter Serhyenko, assisted by Arshdeep Bains and Jhett Larson, bringing the game to a 1-1 tie.

With Prince Albert’s Zachary Wilson in the box for delay of game, it took Red Deer’s Ben King seven seconds to score his 11^th goal of the season on the power play at the 14:56 mark. The goal was assisted by Kai Uchacz and put the Rebels up 2-1.

The first period ended with the Rebel’s not only outscoring but outshooting the Raiders 14-4.

The Rebels came into the second period with a winning attitude, as Jace Weir scored in the first six minutes with his third goal of the season. Teammates Christoffer Sedoff and Kyle Masters assisted on the goal, and increased their lead to 3-1.

Two and a half minutes later, the team felt another goal brewing, with Ben King scoring his second goal of the game and 12^th of the season. It was assisted by Jhett Larson and made the score 4-1 Red Deer.

Just before the buzzer though, the Raiders took one last shot, and saw Nolan Allan score his second goal of the season at the 19:37 mark. It was assisted by Harrison Lodewyk, a Red Deer native, and Vladislav Shilo, closing the Rebels lead to 4-2 by the end of the period.

Shots on goal in the second period were 8-7 in favor of the Rebels.

Despite a pair of penalties for the Rebels, no one scored in the third period, making it a 4-3 final.

Prince Albert outshot Red Deer 9-5 in the third period, but the Rebels outshot the Raiders 27-20 through 60 minutes.

Elsewhere, Red Deer went 1/3 on the power play, while Prince Albert was 0/5 with the man advantage.

The third star of the game went to Prince Albert’s Hayden Pakkala. The second star went to Red Deer’s Jhett Larson. The first star went to two-time goal scorer on the evening, Red Deer’s Ben King.

The win improves the Rebels record at 12-6-1 and keeps them tied with the Edmonton Oil Kings for first place in the WHL’s Central Division. The loss for PA, leaves them in sixth place in the East Division with a record of 5-9-0.

Red Deer’s eastern road trip was a big success, winning five out of seven games.

Moving back home now, the Rebels next game will be in one week’s time on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m., against the Calgary Hitmen on home ice at the Peavey Mart Centrium.
