Celebrating the 47th Canadian Finals Rodeo

The Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) and Westerner Park are celebrating a successful 47th Canadian Finals Rodeo.

“Rodeo is built on community, and you can see how the staff, volunteers, sponsors, community partners, and supporters all came together to put on an amazing Canadian Finals Rodeo,” says Jeff Robson, General Manager, CPRA, in a press release. “We certainly worked through some unique challenges, but we kept the focus on delivering the CFR experience that our stakeholders can expect. We are already looking forward to our 2022 rodeo season, and CFR48.”

It is estimated that the Canadian Finals Rodeo generated $25 million in economic activity for Central Alberta. Over 25,000 people attended the rodeo itself, with thousands more taking in the number of free onsite activities, including the CFR Trade Show, the nightly Buckle Presentations and Cabaret with live music.

While this is reduced from the 2019 numbers of $30 million and 34,000 attendees, officials note it is a significant benefit to the local area, and a positive message for the community.

By having the Restrictions Exemption Program in effect, Westerner Park was able to safely host a major event like CFR. Attendees were cooperative in providing proof of vaccination or negative rapid test, and with consistent messaging and monitoring, the wearing of masks.

Mike Olesen, Chief Executive Officer, Westerner Park, states that, “I am proud of our team. We challenged ourselves to think differently and modify the scope and scale in response to all of the unknowns we experienced leading up to the event.”

Officials offer congratulations to the Canadian Champions, who were celebrated at the closing ceremonies Sunday afternoon:

  • Ladies Barrel Racing – Justine Elliott
  • Bareback Riding – Clint Laye Steer Wrestling – Cody Cassidy
  • Team Roping – Clay Ullery/Tyce McLeod Saddle Bronc Riding – Zeke Thurston
  • Tie Down Roping – Riley Warren
  • Bull Riding – Jared Parsonage
  • New to CFR, Ladies Breakaway – Kendal Pierson
  • Novice Bareback – Cruz McNulty
  • Novice Saddle Bronc – Brodie Roessler Jr Steer Riding – Kane Scott
  • All Around Cowboy was awarded to Jared Parsonage

Officials say Westerner Park is looking forward to again hosting Canada’s best rodeo contestants, along with the world-class entertainment that brings fans from across North America to Central Alberta, for CFR48.
