Diane Ethel Phillips passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at the age of 81 years. Diane was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan on December 4, 1939 to Horatio and Mary Allen. She was the youngest of six children. As a young girl she enjoyed going to the movies, skating and attending hockey games. She was very proud of her three older brothers; George, Squee & Cecil, who all played hockey for the ‘Kerrobert Tigers’. Hockey was a big part of her life, from watching her brothers play and as often as possible, watching the games of her numerous nephews, nieces and great great nieces and nephews. She was also a goalie for the Claresholm Ladies team. Diane enjoyed sleigh rides with friends, sang in the United Church Choir and belonged to the ‘CGIT’ in Kerrobert. In 1953, she moved to Claresholm, Alberta with her parents. She worked at the Tradewinds Hotel in Calgary and the Claresholm Auxiliary Hospital. Diane took care of her aging parents up until their end. Diane married Donald Phillips in 1972. They lived a country lifestyle working on ranches around Alberta eventually settling in Innisfail, Alberta. They enjoyed attending Central Alberta rodeos and camping in the Caroline area. Diane had a love for animals and always had cats and dogs, but those that knew her well heard her favorite story told over and over about her pig “Tootsy Bum”. Christmas was special to Diane as a child and remained so all her life. She had a huge collection of Christmas decorations when she lived in her little house in Innisfail. Diane was well known in Innisfail. On her daily walks she could be found downtown at the bank, Co-op, Dollarama and sometimes a stop at the Innisfail Legion for a “snort”. She loved to visit with people and always enjoyed when family members would visit her so she could introduce them to all her acquaintances. Diane was fortunate to travel to Las Vegas to see the National Finals Rodeo and on her 70th birthday, she visited London, England with her two nieces, Joanne and Georgie, a dream she had had since she was a little girl. Although Diane never had any children, she had a huge impact on many of her closest family members. She will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews and their extended families. Diane was predeceased by her husband, Don Philips, her parents, Horatio and Mary Allen, her brothers, George, Squee and Cecil and her two sisters, Hazel and Vesta. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2022.
