Advance polling for Red Deer’s municipal election runs Oct. 4-16

Voting opens early for this month’s municipal election in Red Deer.

Voting day is Oct. 18, but electors can fill out their ballots from Oct. 4-16 at three locations.

Parkland Mall, the Baymont Inn, and Westerner Park will each offer voting stations from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day, including weekends.

“We are encouraging Red Deer voters to vote early this Election,” says Returning Officer Samantha Rodwell. “The advance vote offers voters numerous opportunities to cast their ballot early while helping us reduce the number of people at voting stations on election day.”

On election day, voters do not have a dedicated voting station as in the recent federal election. However, you do have to vote from within your own municipality.

There will be eight polling stations that day, operating at one-third capacity due to COVID-19.

“We selected larger facilities for voting stations to ensure we could implement health measures necessary to keep voters and staff safe in a pandemic election,” says Rodwell. “As an added bonus, voters will be able to select their voting station based on a time and location that is convenient to them.”

To assist voters in selecting the most convenient place to vote, the City’s official election website will host a voting station map with real-time updates about wait times at each location. This map will also be functioning for the advance vote.
